What Is Dental Bonding?

Woman with beautiful smileBonding is a minimally to non-invasive aesthetic procedure where we place tooth-coloured composite resin over a small area to reshape specific teeth. The bonding matches your adjacent enamel to blend in with your overall smile. After it’s cured, bonding helps those specific teeth look straighter, more even and better aligned.

The material used for cosmetic bonding is the same white composite resin which is used for dental fillings. Only instead of filling in areas of tooth decay, we cover healthy tooth structure to reshape it. Bonding is an excellent economical alternative to dental veneers and is less invasive to your teeth; however, composite typically does not last as long as porcelain, so it usually needs to be updated more frequently than veneers.

What to Expect

Most bonding is performed freehand by Dr Pulkit. In these situations, he matches the material and shapes it over the tooth for immediate results. For more involved cases, we may recommend a mock-up where you preview our recommended changes before the planned procedure. This approach allows you to test drive the smile design and request any adjustments before the final appointment.

The procedure is minimally invasive, so Dr Pulkit will only slightly adjust the teeth that are involved. This creates a slightly rougher texture for the bonding to adhere to. Numbing is rarely required.

To help protect your investment, we recommend planning six monthly checks and wearing a nightguard if you’re prone to grinding your teeth. Bonding can stain over time, so routine cleanings and polishing are needed to help your smile look as bright as possible.
