Stain, Stain Go Away!

It seeems like just about everyone is doing it these days! Getting that “Hollywood Smile” is the most requested cosmetic dentistry procedure. Many people buy supermarket and pharmacy whiteners which have a lower concentration of whitening gel with unpredictable results. At A+ Dentists, we offer Zoom whitening which can make your teeth up to 8 shades lighter in one session!

Is Whitening for Everyone?

When it comes to teeth whitening, it’s always best to begin with a consultation with one of our friendly dentists. We can advise you on whether you are a good candidate for teeth whitening. Typically, yellower teeth will respond better to whitening treatments than teeth with brown or grey hues. It is also important to remember that whitening gels have no effect on any restorations, ie; tooth-coloured composite fillings, crowns or veneers, so a plan must be put in place for these restored teeth prior to any whitening treatment.

Are In-Office Procedures Better than At-Home Procedures?

In-office whitening treatments generally provide better results but it is really all about what works for you.

Our in-office whitening treatment uses a higher concentration gel that is applied after ensuring your gums and lips are well protected. LED light is usually used to speed up the whitening process while you sit back and relax. This procedure can be mildly uncomfortable for some but should not be painful. Your dentist will be quick to relieve any pain that is caused by the gel coming in contact with any of your gums. Some people suffer from sensitive teeth which can be exacerbated by whitening. We provide a complimentary relief gel to be applied after treatment which greatly reduces sensitivity.

We also provide custom-made bleaching trays and a take-home whitening gel that can be used 5-12 months after your initial Zoom whitening as a top up. All of this is included in the package to give exceptional value.

A take-home whitening kit is a good option for people who want a whiter smile but want to control how white it gets at home. We provide custom-made bleaching trays with a high quality bleaching gel that is safe to use at home. Your teeth may not get as white as they would with an in-office treatment but the difference will be noticeable!

If you currently have bleaching trays then you can purchase bleaching gel alone as well. We have a variety of concentrations of bleaching gel and your dentist is the best person to discuss this in detail with you.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Notice the difference in the upper teeth in these two photos!

Some people experience tooth sensitivity after using bleaching agents. This is usually temporary and the relief gel will help resolve this. Others notice irritation of their gums – especially when the bleaching tray is not custom made and the gums come in contact with the bleaching agent.

Side effects should always be brought to our attention so we can advise you on whether they are typical or not.

You certainly don’t want your teeth to glow in the dark! We like to provide you with a natural looking white smile :-)
